Why Mediation?

Family conflicts are some of the most difficult disputes to deal with, both for the individual and for the courts. Once you place your dispute in front of a judge, the outcome of your dispute is out of your hands. A judge must make a ruling that can never fully take into account your individual desires and circumstances and usually assumes one winner and one loser. Not to mention, that the trial process most often worsens the communication and the relationship between the parties – a result that is not good for families or parents who must continue to communicate about raising their children.

Mediation is a better way. In mediation the parties sit down with a skilled mediator to discuss possible options for resolving the issues involved in the conflict. Through this process, you keep the outcome of your dispute in your hands, and you can develop options that are specifically tailored to your circumstances. Not only that, but mediation can help reduce the tension that arises in difficult disputes and has been shown to improve the communication between the parties – an important consideration when children are involved.

Post Divorce

Often, after the divorce is final or you have been separated for some time, issues arise that require modifications to your divorce decree or paternity order.

Probate or Guardianship

Mediation can be helpful for individuals who are determining the division of an estate or trying to make important decisions regarding guardianship of an elderly or incapacitated adult.
